Open Call  | Exhibitions 2019

126 Artist-Run Gallery is delighted to launch our open call for exhibitions for our 2019 program. 2019 will see the continuation of our current research project “Unset in Stone”, which commenced with “The Materialists” by Sophie Gough and Dara O’Shea. The theme was conceived in light of recent activities surrounding the destruction of National Monuments overseas. These events became ingrained in a collective unconscious, shocking society and provoking much heated debate. We are inviting proposals which confront the idea that an art object can be considered a monument of sorts: a symbol of the time in which it was made: a representation of society or societal concerns, Materialism also comes into play here, as the longevity of an object in both meaning and physicality, can disintegrate change or produce new meaning. 126 encourages you to apply for both solo and/or duo exhibitions and we welcome and encourage you to approach this open call in alternative ways. The project will also culminate in a publication in 2019.

Eligibility: Open to all members of 126 Artist-run Gallery at any stage of their career. There is no application fee. Visit to join our membership today. Applications will be assessed in terms of importance to the career of our members, track record, ambition and unique contribution to the research project. Time Frame: The exhibitions will take place throughout 2019. Deadline for submissions is 5pm, November 11th, 2018.

Submissions: Send an artist statement, exhibition proposal and a C.V. no longer than 3 pages and images of previous/current work in one PDF to with Exhibitions 2019 in the subject line.

Internship Opportunity

Every year, 126 welcomes 6 interns to its Internship programme. Every year the interns will work along 126 board of directors and group curate the final show of the year here at 126, gaining first-hand experience in the activities carried out in an artist-run space.

Open Call 2018 (now closed)
126 is delighted to announce an open call to all graduates who wish to participate in the 2018 Internship programme. Six interns will be selected for a six-month internship running from July to December 2018. The interns will be mentored by the board members and will gain experience in all aspects of running the gallery including fundraising, curation, marketing, archiving, web design and arts administration. The internship culminates in a project, exhibition or event to be developed and curated by the interns under the mentorship of the 126 board and to take place in the Hidden Valley gallery in December.

Please include a CV and images of recent work (max. 10) and a letter of interest (max 350 words), which should include your expectations for the project in one Pdf document.

Applications should be emailed to: Please subject line: “Internship Programme 2018” in your email.

The deadline for applications is July 1st 2018. Successful candidates will be notified by Friday 6th of July and the internship will begin on Sunday the 15th of July. The first month of the programme is an induction period to allow the interns to settle into the gallery and into Galway. However, the Galway International Arts Festival runs from the 17th – 30th July and is a great opportunity to immediately become involved in the work of the gallery.

Please note that internship at 126 is not a prerequisite for becoming a board member. Applications to become board members from all artists, including recent graduates, are welcomed throughout the year.
