You are warmly invited to the opening of ‘Mind, Breath, Beat’ – featuring works by Gavin McCrea, Edel Haran and Rachel Mcmanus – on Friday 10th January at 6pm. The exhibition will continue for two weeks, open 12-6pm, until Friday 24th January.
These artists were selected through an open call for work that loosely explored the cerebral, the existential and the rhythmic. The exhibition itself delves into the language of materiality and its surface tensions; the physicality of the making process; and aspects of gesture – how we communicate with each other and ourselves.
Admission is free and all are welcome!
There will be a special performance of ‘Conversations with Myself’ from Rachel Mcmanus on the opening night.
About the artists:
Originally from Tyrone, Gavin McCrea now lives and works in Rossnowlagh, Co. Donegal. Drawing from skills and experience developed from over fifteen years working in surfing and surfboard manufacture, the work ultimately takes its inspiration from experiences of the sea. Recent solo shows include ‘Speed, Power and Flow’ at Ards Arts Centre, ‘Intertidal’ at Ballina Arts Centre and ‘Innermost Limits’ at the Hyde Bridge Gallery. He has exhibited widely in group shows, and was selected for inclusion at the Cairde Festival Exhibition at the Model, The Leitrim Sculpture Centre, The Dock and The Higher Bridges Gallery.
Edel Haran is an artist based in Leitrim. A recent graduate of Sligo Institute of Technology, her works have been shown in The Model, Sligo, The Hyde Bridge Gallery and Leitrim Sculpture Centre. The heart of Edel’s work is environmental. Her practice is to dismantle plastic objects, creating a playful form. From a distance, her work lures the audience in, closer view, to the shocking reality of single use plastic manifests.
Rachel Mcmanus is a Clare-based artist currently developing new work at Glór, Ennis. Her practice spans drawing, portraiture and performance/ live art. She is interested in how people inhabit the earth, move around, take up space and communicate with each other. Recent public performances include Night Crawl and Conversations with Myself with EVIL Collective.
