126 Artist-Run Gallery is delighted to announce an open call for two Curators/Artists to develop an exhibition in conjunction with 126’s board of directors. The exhibitions are to be presented in the second part of 2021. All curators/artists will be paid.

In June, 126 made a public statement outlining our intention to re-evaluate how we use our platform. This was in response to the international confrontation of racism in the many forms it exists across society. The aim of this curatorial open call is to begin to act upon our words by addressing the lack of space within our programme dedicated to accessibility and highlighting the invaluable diversity of artistic voices in Ireland.

126 will ensure this paid curatorial opportunity becomes a staple element of our yearly programme and is included in our mission statement moving forward. This may take various forms to guarantee 126 can be reflective of a changing arts ecology and include the multifactorial elements of Irish society and identity.

We are seeking applications from individuals with a connection or insight into communities that are underrepresented in art spaces in Ireland, with exciting and experimental proposals for two/three-person shows that address in some way the themes of interrogating hierarchies, inclusive/exclusion practices and debate/protest. Previous curational experience is desirable but not required.

126 will also take this opportunity to begin to address an important element of the gallery/artist relationship. For this open call, we have created a short and easy expression of interest form which will take no more than 20 mins to complete. It puts the emphasis on the gallery’s board to do the work. We ask only for an initial idea, suggestion or starting point. No CV, essay or images required. We will visit all social, web or links provided and take the time to thoroughly assess all submissions.

126 Artist-Run Gallery will accept expressions of interest in several ways:

Deadline for applications is Sunday 10 January 2021 at 5 pm.
