We are delighted to announce the first part of our programme of FREE socially engaged events in February and March in connection with our upcoming Socially Engaged Artist Residency.
We will be joined at 126 by Liam McBrearty and Sarah Lewtas, who will be running a series of poetry and sculpture workshops, open studios and showcases. All events are open to the public, though booking is essential for workshops.
In the “Poetry Your Way” workshop series, Liam will take you from the beginning of an idea to writing and performing your own poetry over four sessions. These sessions will take place on Thursdays 19th February, 26th February, 5th March and 12th March. At the end of the series, workshop participants will have the option to perform their work in a showcase during the weekend of 14th-15th March. Places are limited. In the silicone mould and paper pulp cast workshops with Sarah, the first session will focus on creating small clay forms and covering them in silicone, while in the second session you will build on this by making paper pulp and filling your handmade silicone mould to form a hollow paper cast. Sessions will take place on Saturdays 21st and 28th of February, and those interested must be able to attend both workshops. Places are limited. No booking is necessary to pop by during the “Cadis” evolving work opening hours – all are welcome! At its core, Cadis is about the sacredness of everyday experience. “…Like the insect, I am creating a patchwork mantle from thousands of diamond-shaped fabric pieces—offcuts, old clothes, and donated scraps—stitched together without a fixed end, growing slowly over time.
This mantle will partially rise and stretch across the floor, sheltering a collection of sealed memory capsules. Each contains a private thought, never to be opened.”
You are warmly invited to contribute in any of the following ways:
- Write something — anything at all — on no more than 2 sheets of A4.
- Make something. Create an image — draw, paint, photograph, stitch, or collage. Maximum size: A4.
- Donate a piece of fabric. Please donate a square of fabric measuring 8 inches x 8 inches.
