About Rare Exports

Rare Exports/Rare Imports is 126 international project for 2016 of ambitious scale. It features a series of artistic residencies and shows with artists from Italy, Ireland and Spain. It is an occasion for Irish artists to spent one month in Rome and for Italian ones to bring their practices in Ireland. The project is funded by the Arts Council.


Rare Exports 1- a residency in Rome for an emerging artist from the 126 membership who will work with our partners AmistadeLab in a studio at Spatzio Y. In this unique residency, the selected artist will create site specific works inspired by this exciting urban area of Rome with the assistance of a network of curators, artists and cultural producers fostered by the AmistadeLab/126 partnership founded by current board member Gino Querini. The selected artist will undertake a residency for 1 month from 10th MAY 2016.

Rare Imports 1 | Basic Nature- an exhibition of works from Spanish Artist-Run gallery La Casa del Arco, a dual show featuring photographic works by Manuel Valmorisco and sculptures by Blanca Gortari. OPENING 21 APRIL 7PM- ALL WELCOME

Rare Imports 2- a group exhibition of works by emerging Italian Contemporary artists: Elisabetta di Sopra, Giancarlo Marcali and Ilaria Margutti as part of Galway International Arts Festival 2016. This immersive exhibition ‘Foreign Bodies’ includes textile, video and photography; inviting the viewer to consider both the bodies corporeal fragility and its profound effect on our navigation of the world. 11-24 JULY

Rare Exports 2- a residency for an Italian emerging artist in Galway County the selected artist will create site specific works inspired by this distinct area of Galway County with the assistance of the 126 team and the county archaeologist.
