Overview

126 are proud to present Manner-isms, an exhibition by Burren-based artists A.S. Dutton and Francine Marquis.

A.S. Dutton’s work is focused around material and explores the relationships between stone, environment, humanity – and their collective changes alongside time. His goal is to subvert the prescribed purposes of these materials: to refamiliarize the viewer with stone, wood and the elemental components of our world; to question how we determine their value, and to consider the ways in which we engage with these materials and the world they come from: now, before, and hereafter.

Francine Marquis creates sculpted, stitched, and fractured installations that explore how memory is embedded in the architecture of place and the intimacy of domestic space. Through tactile encounters, her “installations in flux” blur boundaries between construction and deconstruction, care and neglect, the body and material bodies.

Manner-isms brings together the work of Dutton and Marquis in an exhibition of sculpture, textile and print that invites the viewer to consider the roles of time and place, from the intimacy of the everyday to the aeonic journey of earth’s fundamental materials.

Come and join us on Friday the 22nd of August at 6pm for the opening of this exhibition!

Manner-isms will run from the 22nd of August to the 7th of September. Open daily from 12pm-6pm at 126 Artist-Run Gallery, 15 St. Bridgets Place, Galway.
